Items to prepare before re-dyeing:
*SAI (indigo dye solution)
*Brush
*Fine brush
*Brush (made of pig bristles or slightly firm type)
*Plastic bottle or disposable bowl
*Newspaper
*Rubber gloves
Indigo can be difficult to remove if it gets on clothing, tatami, or flooring. For this reason, we recommend wearing clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and placing newspaper or similar material under your bogu during the process. Since the dye may also get on your hands, using rubber gloves is suggested for extra protection.
When re-dyeing your bogu, avoid dyeing the inner areas that touch your face, arms, or keikogi to prevent any color transfer.
If sweat has surfaced on the item, it may cause discoloration. Please wipe off the sweat with a well-wrung cloth before dyeing.
Allow the items to dry thoroughly for 1–2 days in a well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight.
If you follow the steps carefully and use the right tools, you can easily do this at home!
